Castello di Amorosa is a California State Historical Landmark, a member of the Historic Hotels of America and was named by Forbes Travel Guide as one of the finest hotels in the country. The castle was built on the ruins of a 19th Century stone winery and has been restored to its original grandeur.

The castle was designed by James DuBois, an award winning architect who also designed Calaveras County’s historic courthouse and several other buildings in this area. Castello di Amorosa contains rare artifacts from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome including marble statues, stained glass windows and frescoes that were salvaged from old European cathedrals during the 19th century.

The estate also boasts a 2- acre vineyard (the largest in California), which produces award-winning cabernet sauvignon and merlot wines. You can purchase these wines at the castle or pick them up at local stores like Whole Foods Market or Safeway.
