The average cost of building a well is $1,500, but this can vary based on location and what needs to be done to build the well. For example, if you plan on digging the well yourself, expect to pay about $250 per foot for digging equipment and supplies (e.g., shovels, hoses). If you hire someone else to dig the hole and install the pump at your location, expect to pay about $300 per foot for labor costs alone. If you choose to hire someone else to do everything (digging plus installing), expect to pay around $600 per foot or more depending on how far away your location is from where they live or work and if they have experience installing these types of wells before.

Water Wells for Africa is a non-profit organization that has provided over 11,000 water wells to families in need in Africa and Asia. We have helped thousands of people gain access to clean water, which allows them to lead healthier lives.
A typical well costs $1,500. We provide all of the materials needed for the well except for labor and transportation costs. This includes digging the well, installing pumps, piping and other related materials. The average cost of installing a pump on an existing well is $200 per pump.
Our average cost per well project is $2,700 because we provide everything needed for the project except for labor and transportation costs.
