The Statue of Unity is a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, located in the Narmada district in Gujarat, India. It is the world’s tallest statue and was built as part of the development for the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The cost to build the statue was estimated at Rs 2,989 crore (US$450 million), excluding project management costs and an additional Rs 5,000 crore (US$0.7 billion) spent on land acquisition and rehabilitation.

The construction work on this project began in October 2013, with an expected completion date in 2016. However, due to various issues such as poor weather conditions and technical difficulties during construction, it was not completed until October 31st 2018 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it.

How much does it cost to build Statue of Unity?

The Statue of Unity is a statue that was unveiled by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2018. The statue is located in the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat, India. It depicts Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, an Indian freedom fighter who played an instrumental role in uniting the country.

Accordingly to government sources, the project has been funded by donations and corporate social responsibility funds from Tata Group companies including Air India, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) and Shapoorji Pallonji & Co Ltd.[5]

It took three years to build this statue which stands at 182 metres high and weighs 2,500 tonnes.
