If you have been a long term reader of this blog, you know that I am obsessed with the idea of bringing closets (or any storage) into the 21st century by utilizing modern technology. Using some power tools, and some good old fashioned scissor skills, here is how we built our own DIY sliding barn doors for our walk-in closet.

There wasn’t room for the sliding barn door hardware, so two narrow doors were added with accents that give them a barn door feel. Common boards and simple hardware make the cost of this DIY project more 

Double Barn Door Closet Ideas

Barn doors for closets are a great way to make your closet look more stylish and luxurious. This is a relatively easy DIY project, so if you want to give it a try, here are some tips.

1. First, decide where you want the barn door to be installed. You can choose any wall in your closet or bedroom as long as there is enough space for the door to open without hitting anything else during its movement.
2. Next, measure the height of the wall where you want to install the door. This will help determine how high the track needs to be installed so that it doesn’t interfere with any other elements in your home such as stairs or furniture pieces nearby.
3. Make sure that there is enough clearance at the bottom of your track so that when you open and close the door, there won’t be any rubbing against any other surface below it (for example: carpet). If there’s not enough room underneath, consider adding a piece of plywood or something similar under the track so that it extends past the floor level by at least 1/2 inch on each side (or whatever distance is needed).
4. Purchase all necessary materials from any home improvement store near you (for example: Lowe’s or Home Depot).

This is a perfect example of our DIY double barn door. This project was very easy and it only took about an hour to complete. We used 2×4’s and 2×6’s to make this barn door, then stained it with a dark walnut stain. We also added some decorative molding to the top and bottom edges of the door.
