How to build a above ground garden
A garden can provide you and your family with healthy and nutrient-rich food all year round. Whether you’ve got a large backyard or just a small balcony at home, there’s no excuse to give up on growing something edible.
Above-ground container gardening is a great way to start container gardening. If you have never gardened before, or if you don’t have a large amount of space for a garden, above ground gardening is a great option for you.

Raised bed vegetable gardening is one of the easiest ways to get started growing your own food. It’s also great for people who don’t have a lot of space and want to grow more than just a few plants.
Building a raised garden bed can be done with just about anything, but here are some ideas for materials that will help you build the best raised garden beds possible:
Concrete blocks – If you’re going to use concrete blocks, make sure they’re not cracked or damaged in any way. You’ll also want them to be as uniform in size as possible so they’ll stack evenly. It’s best if they are all the same size, but if that isn’t possible then at least make sure there isn’t much variation between the sizes.
Wood – Wood is another material used by many people for building their raised beds because it’s easy to find and relatively cheap. The downside is that it requires more maintenance than concrete blocks or other materials like stone or brick because it’s easier for termites and other insects to enter into the wood unless it’s covered with something like copper mesh or steel wire mesh (which is expensive).
How to Build a Raised Garden Bed with Concrete Blocks
1. Decide on the size of your raised garden and mark the ground with stakes and string.
2. Use a shovel to dig out the sod in the shape of your raised bed.
3. Fill in around the perimeter of your raised bed with dirt and rake it smooth.
4. Place 6-8 concrete blocks in a line down one end of the space where you want your raised garden to go, leaving 12 inches between each block.
5. Place blocks across the other side of the space, staggering them so they aren’t directly underneath any others (you should have 3-4 inches between each block).**
Raised garden beds are the perfect way to get started with gardening. They allow you to grow more plants and expand your garden, without taking up too much space.
Raised garden beds can be built from almost anything and in any shape or size. The most popular ones are made from wood and have legs (or are raised off the ground). But you can also make a raised garden bed out of concrete blocks, stone, bricks, cinder blocks or even old tires!
Building a raised bed garden is a great way to add a touch of class to your garden. Before you start building, you will need to figure out how much space you have available and what kinds of plants you want to grow.
Building materials for raised beds can be found in many places. You can use bricks or stones, if you have them on hand, or if not, use concrete blocks or even wooden pallets.
First, dig the area where you want the raised bed. Make sure that the soil is loose enough so that it will drain well.
Next do not forget to level out the ground once again before adding any new material.
After that add gravel or sand into the hole (you can use regular sand or crushed rock which will give better support). This will allow water to drain away from your plants and also help prevent weeds from growing in between your plants. You should also make sure that there is enough room between each plant so that they don’t compete with each other for nutrients.
Next place some weed barrier cloth over the gravel/sand mix (this will keep weeds from coming up). Then cover it with about 2-3 inches of composted soil for nutrients and drainage purposes. If there aren’t any compost
Raised beds are a great way to grow vegetables and flowers. They are easier to work than the traditional flat garden bed, they keep your plants warmer, and they look attractive.
Raised beds require a little more effort to build than conventional gardens, but that effort is repaid with a longer growing season and better-tasting produce.
What You Need:
Concrete blocks or bricks (the size should be at least one brick high)
Mortar (see below)
Nails or screws (for attaching the boards together)
Wooden boards or cedar planks (size depends on how big you want your raised bed to be)
1. Measure the area you want your garden to be. Cut four or five pieces of 2 x 4 lumber to the length you measured in step 1.
2. Lay the pieces of lumber on top of each other, then screw them together at the corners with wood screws (see image 1).
3. Measure, cut and attach three more pieces of 2 x 4 lumber so they sit on top of the first set (see image 2).
4. Place one end of a piece of rebar into a hole in one corner of your frame, then push it through to the opposite corner and bend it over itself so that it forms an “L” shape (this will be used as a handle when filling your frame). Repeat with another piece of rebar so there are two L-shaped rebars coming out from both corners (see image 3).
Raised beds are a great way to grow vegetables and herbs. They’re also great for growing flowers and other plants. The best part is that you can build a raised bed out of just about anything!

Here are some easy ways to build your own raised garden beds:
Concrete blocks – This is by far the most common way to make raised garden beds. Concrete blocks come in all shapes and sizes, so they can be used to make any size or shape of bed you want. Plus, they’re really easy to work with, especially if you have access to power tools like a drill or impact driver. Concrete blocks will last forever too, which makes them an excellent long-term investment in your gardening space!
Pallets – Pallets are another popular material for building raised garden beds because they are cheap and easy to find. You can usually find pallets at local hardware stores or home improvement centers for free or very little money (sometimes even free). The downside is that they aren’t as
How to Build a Raised Garden Bed with Legs
1. Measure and mark the length of the wood for your raised bed. You’ll need a 2×4 for each side, as well as two end pieces that are 1 foot longer than your overall width.
2. Cut the 2x4s to length using a circular saw, then use a speed square or framing square to mark the angle on each end piece. Cut the ends at an 8-degree bevel using a jigsaw or handsaw, then sand down any rough edges with 100-grit sandpaper.
3. Lay out the 4×4 posts at each corner using stakes and string lines (photographed). Make sure they’re level before driving them into the ground with a sledgehammer or mallet.
4. Set up and level your second layer of 2x6s across the tops of all 4×4 posts (photographed). Note that this is not enough support — we also added two more crosspieces across the front and back sections of our beds for extra stability; see photos below for details on how we did this step.
