How to Build a Fold-Down Table

Building a fold-down table is a great way to save space in the garage, workshop or office. The construction is fairly simple and can be done with basic carpentry tools, like a circular saw and drill. You’ll also need some basic woodworking skills and knowledge of how to use them. If you’re unfamiliar with these tools or techniques, check out our complete guide to basic carpentry before starting this project.

Materials and Tools Needed:

1 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood (cut into two 24×48 inch boards)

4 feet of 2 x 4s cut into two 48 inch pieces and two 36 inch pieces (these will be used for the legs)

2x4s cut into two 14 inch pieces and one 12 inch piece (these will be used for the braces)

The table top is made from plywood and it has a thin layer of foam on the top to give it a bit of cushion. I have also added some storage space underneath.

The legs are made from wood with a metal bracket that holds them together. The legs fold away for easy storage, but they are strong enough to support the weight of the table when it is open.

This table can be used as a workbench, laundry table or even as a desk. It folds down flat making it easy to store when you don’t need it.

This is one of those projects that looks more complex than it really is, but if you know your way around basic woodworking and have the tools and materials on hand, it won’t take long before you’re enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Laundry folding tables are great for any laundry room or utility room. They can also be used as extra work surface in the garage, basement or kitchen.

To start with, you need to choose which size table you want. There are many different sizes available; however, we recommend getting one that’s at least 36 inches wide so that it will fit most washers and dryers on the market today. If you want additional space for folding clothes and sorting through piles of clothes then go for 48 inches wide instead.

Next, decide how tall you want your folding table to be when it’s folded down flat against the wall. You’ll probably want it around 30 inches high when folded down; however there are some other options available as well including 38 inches high and 42 inches high if needed. You can always change this height later on once you’ve built your table if needed too so don’t worry

I used 2x4s for the legs because they are cheap and easy to work with. You can use 2x6s if you have them available. If you don’t have any 2x4s lying around, you can get them from home depot or lowes for about $1 each (or less). The plywood was about $20 for 4′ x 8′.

I started by cutting the wood into two equal sized pieces with a circular saw or miter saw (or jigsaw). Then I laid out where I wanted my hinges and drilled holes in each piece so that when they were put together they were aligned perfectly with each other. After drilling holes in both pieces of wood, I screwed them together using 1 1/2″ screws through the bottom piece of wood into
