Building a patio wall is a great way to expand your outdoor living space. You can build a wall that runs along your property line, or you can build one that creates an area for entertaining.
Building a patio wall with cinder blocks is not difficult, but it does require some planning and careful measuring. If you are planning to build a seating wall, you will also need to consider how wide the seats will be and how many seats in total.
You may also want to consider the size of the blocks you are using. Smaller blocks will create less visual weight in the overall appearance of your patio wall, but they may be easier to work with than large blocks if you have limited space in which to work.
Here are step by step instructions on how to build a patio wall with cinder blocks.
1. Prepare the site by removing any grass, weeds and other debris from the area where you want to build your wall.
2. Dig out a trench that is at least 6 inches deep, all the way around where you want your patio wall to sit. This will help prevent water from seeping into the ground beneath your patio and making it soft over time.
3. Place your first row of cinder blocks in place at least 8 inches away from each side of the trench, so that there is enough room for a layer of concrete between them (approximately 12 inches).
4. Fill these gaps with concrete up until about halfway up each block, then add another layer of blocks on top of those ones, but leave a gap at the top again so that you can insert another layer of concrete later on (this helps it dry faster).
Building a patio wall can be a great way to add space to your home and provide an outdoor seating area.
Building a patio wall with cinder blocks is quite simple and can be accomplished in just a few hours. The main thing you want to keep in mind is spacing the blocks so they are even, level and straight.
Materials:
Cinder Blocks (The amount varies depending on your project)
Concrete Mixer (Optional)
Trowel or Shovel for mixing concrete (Optional)
Step 1 – Measure and mark off where each cinder block will go. Use chalk or string as needed for marking off where each block will go. Make sure that each one is level with the last one.
Step 2 – Using a concrete mixer, place your first layer of concrete into the bottom of the hole that you have dug out for your patio wall. You want this layer to be wide enough so that it covers the bottom of all of your cinder blocks. Make sure that you tamp down this layer really well so it will hold up over time. You can tamp down using either another block or by using a flat object such as a piece of wood or metal pipe if available.
Building a patio wall is a great way to add some character and style to your outdoor living space. It can also be used as a retaining wall to create a flat surface for laying a patio or walkway.
Building walls with cinder blocks is easy and inexpensive. Here’s how to build your own cinder block wall:
1. Place the first row of cinder blocks in line with each other, but stagger them so they don’t line up perfectly with one another. This will help prevent cracking in your wall later on if you choose not to use mortar between the blocks.
2. Set the second layer of blocks on top of the first layer so that they overlap slightly on each side (about 1 inch). Do this for every row until you reach the height you want for your wall. Make sure to leave enough room on top so that you won’t have any trouble pouring concrete over it later on!
How to Build a Patio Wall
A patio wall can add a lot of character to the garden, but it can also be quite a challenge to build. A good starting point is to use cinder blocks as they are inexpensive and easy to find. Cinder blocks are also durable and easy to work with as long as you follow some basic guidelines.
If you want your wall to be straight, make sure that each block is level with the others before you attach it. To do this, draw a line across the top of each block so that you can see whether or not it’s level. If it isn’t level, move it until it is, then mark where its top edge should be on the line drawn previously. Then use a spirit level or plumb line to make sure that each block is exactly where it needs to be before attaching them together with mortar.
The mortar will help hold the blocks together so that they don’t fall apart over time. You will need a trowel for applying mortar between each block and onto their tops so that they form a continuous surface once they’re all attached together with mortar and cement grout (available at any DIY store).
