Cabinet door hanging can be a finicky task. The reason for this is that there are many variables that can affect the outcome of your install. To ensure you get it right, here are some tips and tricks for hanging your cabinets so they look professional and last a long time.
How to Hang Cabinet Doors with Exposed Hinges
Installing cabinets is one of the most common and important DIY projects, because it helps you to create a functional, attractive and organized kitchen. However, there are some difficulties that you may face during the process of installing cabinet doors. One of these difficulties is how to hang cabinet doors level with exposed hinges.
In this article, we will show you how to hang cabinet doors level with exposed hinges in two simple steps.
How to hang cabinet doors level with exposed hinges
Cabinet doors are typically hung using hinges that are exposed. These hinges are visible when the doors are open. This can create a problem if the cabinet door hangs incorrectly or if the door is not hung level. You can use two methods to ensure that your cabinet doors hang correctly and level.
The first method involves using a laser level to check both sides of each hinge. The second method uses a level or plumb bob to check only one side of each hinge.
Checking Both Sides of Each Hinge
You should check both sides of each hinge so you can be sure that all four sides of your cabinet door will be level. To do this, you need to have an assistant hold one end of a long piece of wood on top of the door while you hold the other end in place against one side of one hinge. Use a pencil to mark where the center point is on this piece of wood and then move it over to the other side of that same hinge and make another mark there.
You can now use these marks as guides for drilling holes in your cabinet doors at each spot where they meet with a hinge pin hole on both sides of each hinge pin (see Resources).
Drill
The first step in hanging cabinet doors is to make sure that they are level. If the door is not level then installing the hinges will be a nightmare. To make sure your doors are level, use a straight edge and check the gap between the door and the cabinet face frame. The gap should be consistent across the entire door. If there are gaps in one area but not another, this is likely due to uneven walls or other problems that need to be addressed before you begin hanging your doors. Once you have confirmed that your doors are level, you can move on to installing your cabinet hardware.

How to Hang Cabinet Doors
Installing new cabinets is a great way to add value to your home. However, if you are not familiar with construction, it can be an intimidating project. If you’re thinking about installing new cabinets, here are some tips for hanging them in your kitchen:
Find the Level
The first thing you need to do when hanging cabinets is make sure that they are level. The best way to do this is by using a laser level. This tool allows you to measure distances and angles with ease. Once you have found the level of your cabinet, use that measurement as a guide when attaching it to the wall.
Hang the Door
Once your cabinet is level and anchored into place, it’s time to hang the doors on each side of it. First, measure from one end of the door down to where it will connect with the frame and mark that spot with chalk or pencil. Next, use a drill bit that matches the size of your screw holes on each hinge and drill through both sides of those spots so that they line up perfectly when installed on each side of the cabinet door. Now, grab one side at a time and line up those holes so that they line up perfectly
When hanging cabinet doors, you need to consider a few things.

The first thing you want to do is make sure that your cabinets are level. If they are not level, use shims under the feet of the cabinets until they are level. This will prevent any kind of sag in the door frame when it is installed.
You can also use a simple carpenter’s level to check for this.
If you have some doors or drawers that need to be hung, these instructions should help you out.
How to hang cabinet doors with self-closing hinges
This type of hinge will automatically close after the door has been opened by a certain amount of degrees. These hinges can be found in most home improvement stores and are fairly easy to install yourself if you follow these steps:
1) Lay out your hinge on top of your door so that there is ½ inch between each screw hole and ¼ inch between each side of the hinge and cover plates (if any).
2) Drill holes through your wood using a drill bit that is slightly smaller than your screws (you can use a drill bit guide if necessary). Make sure they are aligned vertically and horizontally! Use
To hang cabinet doors level with exposed hinges, you will need a level, a pencil and a carpenter’s square.
First, measure from the top of the cabinet to the bottom of the door. Subtract 1/8 inch from this measurement and mark that distance on each side of the hinge.
Next, measure from the top of the cabinet to the bottom of the first hinge leaf and add 3/8 inch to this measurement. Mark this measurement on each side of the hinge. This is where you will mount your screws.
Now place your door in position on top of your cabinet and mark where it meets each edge of your door opening. Remove your door and measure from each mark to find out where you need to drill pilot holes for your screws through both layers of wood (this will ensure that when you attach them later, they will line up perfectly).
Drill holes at these locations using a drill bit that is slightly smaller than your screw diameter (check your hardware package for recommendations). Be sure to use a backer board or other material between your work surface and bottom piece so that if there are any cracks or splits in your work surface, they won’t show through when you go over it with paint or stain later on in

Hanging cabinet doors is a great way to update your kitchen or bathroom. It also gives you the opportunity to change the look of your cabinets completely, without having to replace them entirely.
When hanging cabinets, it’s important that you hang them level and plumb (90 degrees from vertical). You can use a simple level and plumb bob to ensure they are hung correctly but it’s best if you use a laser level. This will ensure that they are hung perfectly every time.
Once you have installed the cabinet frames and doors, you will need to install hinges on each door so that they open and close correctly. Hinges come in different styles, some are exposed and others are concealed. The type of hinge you choose depends on what look you’re going for with your kitchen cabinets.
How to Hang Cabinet Doors with Self-Closing Hinges:
There are several ways to hang cabinet doors, but one of the easiest ways is with exposed hinges. This is where the hinge pins are visible on the outside of the door, so you can see them from both sides. You can also use hidden hinges and concealed hinges.
You may have to adjust your door hanging techniques slightly if you’re using concealed hinges or self-closing hinges.
It’s important that your cabinet doors are level so that they look good and function properly. If your cabinets are built into a wall, then they will be level to start with, but if they’re freestanding then you’ll need to adjust them with shims or wedges until everything is perfectly level.
If you’re hanging a single door, then it should be hung with its front edge even with the front edge of the cabinet opening (see photo below). However, if you’re hanging two doors together, then one should be hung slightly higher than the other so that there’s an even gap between them when they’re closed (see photo below).
This can be done in two ways. First is to use shims and the second is to use a level.
Shims: If you don’t have access to a level, then you can use shims to hang your cabinet doors. Place the shim on the hinge side of the door and screw it into place. Repeat this process on all of the hinges. Once all the shims have been placed, adjust them until the doors are level with each other.
Level: Use a bubble level to hang your cabinet doors. Place one end of the bubble level at an end of the door and adjust each hinge until it is parallel with the edge of the door frame. Repeat this process on every hinge until all four sides of both doors are level with each other.
